Episode 224

Are the stories you’re telling – to yourself and to others – empowering or disempowering?

In episode #224 of the CEO Psyche Podcast, I am joined by Story Expert Celinne Da Costa and we are looking at how the stories we tell the world versus the stories we tell ourselves affect – so many things – from the revenue in our business to the overall chemistry of our brains. We are doing a dive deep into the inner workings of our subconscious minds and exploring how to make decisions from a place of alignment instead of a place of scarcity.

In this episode, you’ll learn:
  • Limiting Beliefs: What beliefs are holding you back from creating the results you want? What are you here to do? What is your bigger why?
  • Private Stories versus Public Stories: Analyzing and doing-the-work on your inner story to avoid projecting in the stories you tell the world? What core stories are running your life right now?
  • Subconscious & Conscious Mind: What percent of our decisions are made in the subconscious mind? (The answer, confirmed by Harvard Business School, may surprise you!)
  • Breathwork and Hypnotherapy: How can these modalities be used to release old trauma response patterns and re-write old stories on a subconscious level?
  • BONUS: Celinne explains her “Four Essential Elements to Create an Irresistible-Story Framework.

Celinne Da Costa Quotable Moments:

“Storytelling is the original form of communication. Storytelling is encoded in our DNA. It has been how we communicate with people since we have been humans. Thousands and thousands of years old, and it continues to work to this day.”

“Storytelling has been proven to be 22 times more memorable than facts. Storytelling increases the retention rate of the information that you share. When we look and brands, and we say – ‘Okay, why is it important to have a brand story?’ A brand story is the narrative between facts and emotions that your brand offers.”

“People feel the essence and the soul of your brand through the stories that you tell. The stories you tell are what actually make people feel connected to you.”

“This is all happening on a subconscious level. Harvard proved that: 95% of purchasing decisions are actually made in the subconscious and we use the other 5% to justify with logic. If we really strip this down, most of our decisions and most of the ways that we are reacting and engaging with the world are happening in the 95% of that subconscious mind, and the 5% of our conscious mind is over-thinking and trying to justify and put logic to the things that are happening.”

“Breathwork is a really powerful modality for you to release old stuck ancient emotions and one of the most effective healing tools to release old trauma response patterns.”

“With hypnotherapy – the client has a narrative they can follow, you have a story you come in with and you work on re-writing old stories on a subconscious level and when they come into consciousness again, they can remember that healing through the story – and use story as a healing modality.”

“Unlock, Embody, Design, Amplify.”

“Why are you not telling your story in the first place?”

“You must look at the stories you are telling yourself, first.”

Design and Amplify – is all about that public story. The private story is Unlock and Embody. The unlock piece is: What are the limiting beliefs you’re holding, the patterns you’re engaging in, and the disempowering stories you’re consistently telling yourself inside of your head, that are actually keeping you, and holding you back from creating the results that you want to be creating in the external world.”

“What story do you tell yourself about who you are, why you do what you do, and what you believe in?”

“A lot of people are not doing the work – all of that is external stimulus, all of that is outside of you. People would rather spend thousands on a brand strategist to tell them who they are than do the internal work.”

“Whatever we are ignoring in our relationship life, tends to show up in our business. It’s the thing that we most care about, so, we look at the things that we most dedicate our energy in. For entrepreneurs its going to be: relationship, business, family – and so what you’re going to see is that the patterns and limiting beliefs you are ignoring in one area, you’re going to be bringing into the other.”

“Patterns are the same. They don’t discriminate against scenarios. Similar dynamics play out in your teams, your clients, this feeling of: you not speaking your boundaries, you not speaking your truth, you not raising your standards – all of these things that are showing up in that weak spot of your life are actually going to come through in your business, and, in the way that you tell your story.”

*MIC DROP MOMENT*

The self-limiting beliefs that we have, the patterns that we engage in, and the disempowering stories that we tell – it doesn’t matter if it’s in: your relationship, or, your relationship with food or with your family or with money – there are patterns, and disempowering stories in there – that are FOR SURE going to get in the way of how you are running your business, and your ability to show up fully as a leader and succeed.”

“The story you tell yourself determines the story that you tell others. And, listen up, because this is important. Your public story cannot express what you haven’t experienced or understood internally.”

“You need to clean out and resolve your internal story.”

“Your why lives in your limbic brain. The limbic system part of your brain is responsible for gut feelings, and your raw emotions. It’s that old ancient part of your brain from before the neo-cortex developed and so the why is the feeling. Your emotion drives action. 95% of decisions are made in the subconscious mind.”
