What is Breathwork?
While there are a variety of breath patterns across traditions, the Breathwork we will practicing is a rhythmic, 3-part sequence, specifically used to release stuck energy, activate psychedelic-level insights, and leave you feeling physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually reset.

Stemming from a long tradition of ancient practices in Shamanism, Hinduism, and mysticism — in the 1960’s, at a time of spiritual awakening, psychiatrists and psychotherapists began exploring the healing benefits of the breath. These discoveries brought a deeper understanding of the breath into the field of psychology, helping the Western world heal trauma and expand consciousness.

Does Breathwork help with stuck emotions or chronic ailments?

Yes, Breathwork helps us purge emotionally, energetically, and physically.

We’re able to do this primarily through the breath, since 70% of the body’s toxins are removed via the breath each day.

You may find yourself letting go of sadness, guilt, anger, fear, resentment, etc.and feeling calmer, lighter, and more at peace by the end of the session.

Ofen, we also release with sound via: crying, laughing, humming, toning, screaming, etc.

And through movement: shaking, sweating, cold, stretching, couching, Tetany (lobster claw hands), etc.

Studies in the field of Trauma show that chronic physical ailments can be caused by stuck energy, repressed emotions, and unhealed trauma, so as we begin to move and release that energy, positive physical changes may be experienced. 

What can I expect to feel and experience in a session?
I’ll start by saying, every session is different. Because you’re in control, you get to determine the intensity of your experience.

Some sessions can be very visual. with insights and messages… some can be very body-focused where you may feel tightness, shaking, experience continuous yawning, weightlessness, sensations of relaxation, etc.

And some can be very emotional with crying or laughter, screaming, toning, etc.

A common experience from Breathwork is Tetany, lovingly called “Lobster Claws.” This is cramping, tingling, spasm, or numbness in the hands, that can also occur in the feet or as a tightening around the mouth and lips.

This is a normal occurrence for this style of Breathwork, as it causes the Co2 levels to drop, less oxygen to be released, and the blood pH to become more alkaline. That’s the science layer.

From a spiritual and energetic perspective, it can also be a sign that there is resistance. We’ll talk more about how to move through that in class!

What is the structural flow of the Breathwork session?

After a brief introduction, covering the basics and the breath, we will set intentions and then begin the active breath. This will last around 30 minutes, followed by around 10 minutes of regular nostril breathing. After this, there will be space to either rest or journal, before closing with an integration circle where you can share or ask questions. No previous experience is necessary!

How do you create a safe space?
From the perspective of physical safety, I ask that you arrive early or on time, as we cover Breathwork safety in the beginning and that is a requirement for sitting in the space.

Your camera must be on, pointing in your direction, so that I can see you. We ask that you stay for the full experience. Please use the restroom before we start and communicate to those you live with that they may hear some noises coming from your room.

Because we will be sharing intentions and integrating, in order to create a safe space, we expect a cone of silence, so that anything that anyone else has shared stays in the space. If you want to ask questions privately, you can do so via Zoom.

What is the best way to prepare for Breathwork?
  • WATER: Particularly in the first 7 minutes of the active breath, you may experience dryness in your throat. It’s completely normal, and goes away, but I do recommend having water nearby so that you can have a few sips if you need it.
  • CLOTHING: I recommend wearing comfortable clothing, and dressing in layers, as it is common to have changes in body temperature during Breathwork.
  • BLANKET + PILLOW: This can be done lying back or sitting elevated with the back supported on stable seating. You do not want to be holding yourself up in a spinning desk chair. Again, because of body temperature changes, you may be more comfortable with a blanket nearby.
  • EATING: I recommend eating lighter or fasting leading up to the experience. Deep breathing when you are overly full can be uncomfortable.
  • SET YOUR SPACE: Light a candle, smoke cleanse with incense or your plant of choice and let whoever you live with that there might be some weird noises coming from the room you’re in.
  • JOURNAL: Before we start and after we finish, there will be time to set intentions and journal about the experience. I recommend having a pen and paper nearby, so that you can write down any ideas, or insights. From personal experience, after 3 years of trying to figure out my new brand name, I channeled “CEO Psyche” during a Breathwork session. 
How do I do Breathwork the “right way”?


The Breath sequence is simple and we’ll go over how to do it together before we begin the practice. Aside from that, I am your guide, but you are in control of the intensity and pace of your own practice.

It’s important to remember that going faster, and harder, isn’t automatically better. Especially when you first begin your practice, it is important to listen to your body and switch to a standard, nostril breath if needed.

What should I do after Breathwork?
Although by the end of class, you’ll have regrounded, and can move about your day normally, it is helpful to give yourself space to integrate your experience.

To support this, I recommend minimizing the use of technology distractions and staying away from alcohol, so that you don’t bypass any emotions that come up.

In this moment, I recognized and deeply integrated the importance of bringing the body into our healing work.

Since then, I have continued on this path of embodiment, along the way awakening powerful spiritual gifts of energy healing and reintegrating my vocal alchemy gifts.
